Christmas markets in Sofia

Christmas markets have become a staple for the holidays over the past years. Each year creators, artists, and cooks display their products in a festive atmosphere which invites you to select original hand-made gifts for your loved ones. But not only that. You are also able to enjoy a cozy afternoon with delicious pastries and tea while chatting with your best friend.

This year I have decided to visit three of them. You will not find the traditional German Christmas Market on the list because I plan on writing a whole other blog post for it.

Hand-Made Fest – National Palace of Culture

Of course the Hand-Made Fest in the National Palace of Culture has become a tradition when it comes to celebrating different holidays throughout the year – St Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas. Undoubtedly, the Christmas edition is my favorite – hand-made decorations, hats, scarves, and whatever else you may think of! I love visiting the fest for two main reasons. First, because it is a great place where you can find original, non-commercial gifts that will surprise your loved ones. Second, because of its amazing atmosphere. The people who display their hand-made products create them with such a passion and love that I always feel inspired after visiting the fest.

The Hand-Made Fest will be open until 5 December.

Fika Christmas Market

This Christmas market is influenced by the Swedish tradition fika which warms up the cold Scandinavian afternoon with hot coffee and traditional pastries. What grabs me the most is its focus on creating a cozy and casual friendly atmosphere in which you can find traditional Scandinavian pastries, teas, coffees, wines (for the wine lovers out there ;), but also scarves, wallets, lamps, candles – all inspired by the Scandinavian minimalism.

The Fika Christmas Market will be open on 9 and 10 December, from 11:00 to 18:00, @Motto Restaurant (18, Aksakov str).

Handmade Design Market

This market found its way to the list because of the opportunity to see how the gifts are made just before your eyes in the workshops that the artists will create for themselves.  Here you will be in touch with the art and the artists who put their whole soul in the process of creating your gifts. Of course the mandatory eating, drinking, and festive ambiance will be also there.

The Handmade Design Market will be open on 16 and 17 December, from 10:00 to 20:00, @Betahaus Sofia (56-58, Krum Popov str).

Do you plan on visiting any Christmas market this December?

See you soon.

Love,

Chrisy
