Easy ways to make your home smell like Christmas

You have probably noticed by far that I love absolutely everything about Christmas. However, the thing that I do not simply love but I adore about Christmas is the scents that go with this holiday. Cinnamon, peppermint, pine, gingerbread and oranges, you name it – every scent that surrounds Christmas just screams to me home and coziness.

For this love of mine, I decided to compile a short list of three ways how to replicate the traditional Christmas scent and bring it to your own home.

Homemade Holiday Potpourri

It is not accidental that I put this method on the first place on my list. I have found this recipe on Pinterest and this year is so high on my to do list. I cannot wait to try it out and let you know how it goes.

Making a homemade potpourri is the best way to make your home smell like Christmas for the longest period of time because you leave all the ingredients to simmer on the stove until the scent takes over your whole home. Generally, you can put whatever ingredients you may prefer but I find the following recipe the best one:

  • 3-5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 1-2 sprigs rosemary
  • 1 tbsp cloves
  • 1 cup of fresh cranberries
  • 2 tbsp nutmeg

Fill a pot with water, put all the ingredients in, and simmer until the scent fills your home. Voila – easy-peasy.

Holiday Candles

This is probably the easiest way to make your home Christmas-ready. The variety of Christmas-scented candles in the stores is so vast that it can become quite overwhelming. From fresh Christmas Tree to Cinnamon Apple, Frosted Cranberries to Evergreen or Peppermint and down to Sugar or Gingerbread Cookies, you can never make a mistake. Every scent will remind you of Christmas – just light the candle and enjoy over a glass of wine.

Homemade Cinnamon Cookies

The homemade cinnamon cookies are a must when it comes to the holidays. They have become a staple and every family bakes them in the run-up to Christmas in order to create the cozy family atmosphere that surrounds December. Personally, cinnamon cookies on Christmas day is my favorite childhood memory so it is no surprise that I associate the holiday with this particular scent. Additionally, we can say that we “kill two birds with one stone” – at the same time you fill your home with a heavenly scent and make a super delicious snack for your afternoon tea or coffee. It is a win-win situation 🙂

Do you have your own ways to make your home smell like Christmas? Share them in the comments.

Love,

Chrisy
