The Five Key Pieces It’s Worth Nailing In Your Makeup Routine

Over the years my tastes when it comes to makeup have changed quite drastically – from a teenager and university student loving double-thickness lashes and eyeshadow shades in blue and bright pink to someone who finds natural-looking makeup much more flattering and suitable for my skin tone. The products which I would use on a regular basis have also changed to accommodate the different tastes, however there have always been five categories of products that have been a staple in my makeup bag and I have used time and time again – foundation, concealer, bronzer, mascara, and lipstick. Whether I’ve been in full-glam mode or barely-anything-on mode, all five products have always been my best friends when it comes to creating the perfect makeup look for any occasion. I genuinely feel that if you have picked the perfect products in these five categories, then you’ve got your makeup routine all sorted. Everything else can be chopped and changed, but by keeping those five constantly high-quality, you are always going to feel fabulous.

So today I thought I’d share my top pick in each of those categories – these are products that I have used for at least a couple of months, while some of them (like the lipstick) have been part of my makeup bag for years! I hope that you will find something useful for you as well – let me know if you have tried any of those products.

FOUNDATION

Lumene CC Color Correcting Cream (in Fair). I usually go around my day wearing less to nothing on my face, but if I am wearing any makeup, then the chances are that this foundation is my base. Of course, this is not really your standard foundation – the lightweight, medium coverage fluid consistency feels incredible on the skin while still reducing redness and perfecting the skin for an even, naturally glowing complexion. And the added SPF 20 is a wonderful addition for extra sun protection.

CONCEALER

Makeup Revolution London Conceal & Define Concealer (in C3). Day to day this is the concealer that I always reach for! I often “enjoy” having dark circles under my eyes because of the long hours I spend in front of the screen, so it is always handy to have a product that will help me out with covering them as much as possible.

BRONZER

L’Oreal Paris Back To Bronze Bronzer (in 02 SUNKISS). If I am looking for a light wash of sun-kissed color across my cheeks, then this is what I reach for. The powder is so subtle that it’s impossible to go overboard with and does that whole “no makeup” makeup thing perfectly. There is no shimmer and the finely-milled powder blends softly across the skin without any prep needed underneath. The perfect choice for any makeup beginner!

MASCARA

Max Factor Volume Infusion Mascara. This has been my favorite mascara for quite some time now and there is a good reason for that – it enhances the length and fullness of my lashes in one swipe while still delivering a healthy and natural look. The keratin and biotin that are infused in its formula make my lashes extremely smooth to the touch.

LIPSTICK

Max Factor Color Elixir Lipstick (in Rosewood, 030). Another all-time favorite of mine – I have had this lipstick and have used it on a regular basis for more than 3 years now. The best thing about it is the nourishing formula that leaves my lips feeling smooth and moisturized for the whole day. There are 29 colors available at the moment and there will be a shade for every taste out there.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your makeup must-haves? Let me know in the comments.
